Modular manufacturing
High-quality, modular construction provides many benefits and efficiencies including:
precision manufacturing
year-round, indoor, safer work environment
bulk ordering and pricing for materials and supplies
reduced time and transport for workers, equipment, materials
lean manufacturing and zero-waste operations
employee training and competitive compensation
reduced neighborhood impacts during home construction
Zero Energy Homes is exploring how new technologies -- robotics, 3-D component printing (such as for cabinets, countertops), greater use of biobased materials including nanocellulose wallboard under development at the University of Maine, smart home technology, and other innovations – can be incorporated into its manufacturing process.
Zero Energy Homes is working to locate a first manufacturing facility in the downeast Maine region.
Common question: Are modular and manufactured homes the same?
Anwer: No. Both are built with “off site” construction. Modular homes are typically set on a foundation or slab.
Manufactured or mobile homes are constructed and delivered on a steel chassis, like some tiny homes. This allows them to be moved, though many stay in place.
